Day 1 of Nazaria Youth Film Festival
11am-1pm: Catch the screening of Bombay: Our City in the presence of its creator Anand Patwardhan himself!
Why should you join our screening?
This is a 1985 documentary exposing the stark contrast between Bombay's affluent elite and its massive slum-dwelling population, focusing on the daily struggles, evictions, and resilience of the 4 million slum dwellers who form half the city, highlighting the socio-economic injustice and the city's divided reality- our reality!
Followed by a conversation with the award-winning director Anand Patwardhan!
Hindi, English, Marathi with English subtitles.
2pm-4pm: Catch Shehernama - a selection of films that engage with youth and their experiences of urban spaces and everyday life in cities. These films examine the city as spaces of joy, movement, and contested areas, where questions of gender, belonging, and power are negotiated by youth in multifold ways.
This programme is curated in collaboration with Nagari Short Films and Rough Edges

5pm-7pm: Catch the screening of Humans in the Loop, followed by a conversation with its protagonist Sonal Madhushankar!
Why should you join our screening?
Aranya Sahay’s captivating debut Humans in the Loop portrays Nehma, a tribal woman who returns to her Jharkhand village post-divorce with her children. To sustain her family, she becomes a data annotator, a role reflecting the real-life involvement of many Adivasi women in India’s burgeoning AI industry- the film offers perspective on how development really comes about!
Followed by a conversation with lead actor, Sonal Madhushankar.

A day filled with screenings of youth-made short films by diverse young creators across the country.
These films explore ideas of identity, making space, and social issues, reflecting the lived experiences of youth told in their own voice and their unique nazaria (perspective).
