Love never dies… it just rots differently. Enter a world where graveyard funk collides with undying obsession, and romance smells faintly of formaldehyde.
In Dead Lover, directed by Grace Glowicki, a lonely gravedigger haunted by the stench of corpses finally meets her dream man only to lose him in a tragic drowning. Left with nothing but a severed finger, she plunges into grief-driven, Frankenstein-style experiments to resurrect him. What unfolds is a delirious cocktail of body-horror, dark comedy, and grotesque romance where devotion, decay, and desire are stitched together with equal parts madness and heart.
Shot on 16 mm with theatrical sets, vivid gels, and gleeful DIY bravado, Dead Lover is equal parts freak-show carnival and sincere love story. Audiences can expect to laugh, squirm, and swoon, sometimes all at once.
Grace Glowicki is a Canadian actor, writer, and director known for her fearless blend of horror, comedy, and DIY cinema. She won a Sundance Jury Award for Her Friend Adam (2016), made her feature debut with Tito (2019), and now returns with Dead Lover (2025), which premiered at Sundance, TIFF, Rotterdam, and Göteborg. Glowicki’s films revel in the grotesque and the tender, turning love and fear into unforgettable cinematic experiments.
