At the heart of Bitchitra is the spirit of collectivising. We began when a few of us put our heads down and decided we were done waiting for someone else to solve our problems. We knew the answers wouldn't come from above - they'd come from us, together.
From that same spirit comes DocCircle. A space without hierarchies, without juniors and seniors, without a panel of speakers and an audience of listeners. In this circle, we ask the tough questions and find the answers with and for each other.
For our first gathering, we're tackling the age-old question that's been plaguing all our minds: What are some means for the alternative distribution of our films? This circle brings together senior documentary filmmakers and curators who are looking for these answers as much as someone just starting out. They've won National Awards and top honours at Sundance, and they're bringing that same spirit of inquiry inward, ready to deconstruct the system and find a better way forward, together.
Join us as we sit in a circle and search for answers—not as experts and learners, but as fellow travellers on the same path.
In Attendance:
• Nishtha Jain, Filmmaker (Gulabi Gang, Farming The Revolution; Best International Doc, Hot Docs)
• Samarth Mahajan, Filmmaker (Unreserved, Borderlands; Indian National Film Awardee)
• Sarvnik Kaur, Filmmaker (A Ballad of Maladies, Against The Tide; Special Jury Prize, Sundance)
• Aanchal Kapur, Founder - Kriti Film Club
2 reasons to attend this circle:
1. We are bringing together experienced filmmakers and budding filmmakers in a circle – all tackling with similar challenges (on different fronts) to come to talk and understand ways of resolving the problem or finding ways to make the industry more collaborative and engaging.
2. All discussions are open – freedom of speech is guaranteed!
