This workshop is a unique and immersive journey into the 111-year-old history of Indian cinema.

Participants will experience curated screenings of landmark Hindi and regional films, followed by discussions and interactive sessions delving into themes, aesthetics, and the cultural and political contexts of the works.

In the past, these workshops have hosted noted personalities such as Amit Masurkar, Anamika Haksar, Atika Chohan, Akshay Indikar, and Pavan Jha, among others.

About the facilitator:
Eshan Sharma is a historian-in-training, filmmaker, and a well-known advocate for public history in India. He is the founder of Karwaan: The Heritage Exploration Initiative, a collective that works to make academic history accessible, engaging, and rooted in the everyday experiences of people. Through heritage walks, film screenings, lecture series, and baithaks, he has re-imagined how Indian history is experienced in the public sphere. 
Eshan completed his undergraduate studies in History from the University of Delhi and went on to earn his postgraduate degree in Modern Indian History from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
His academic work focuses on gender, cinema, and post-independence Indian cultural politics, with a specific emphasis on the Propaganda in Hindi films and women’s representation.   He has served as a Guest Lecturer at various Indian universities. His efforts with Karwaan have garnered national attention and been featured by TIME Magazine, Air India, MidDay, and IndiaTimes for bringing history out of classrooms and into public consciousness. 

Mihir Pandya did his doctorate from University of Delhi, on contemporary City in Indian Popular Cinema. He has worked in 'The Lallantop', Hindi website launched by India Today group as Assistant Editor in 2016.   He has written on cinema and popular culture for BBC Hindi, Newslaundry, The Lallantop, The Hindu, Nav Bharat Times, Jansatta, Prabhat Khabar, Rajasthan Patrika, Hans, Kathadesh, Tadbhav, Aalochana, Bahuvachan, Naya Path etc. Started the film column 'आराम नगर' in literary magazine Hans. Written film column ‘रौशनदान’ for Navbharat Times and film review column for Tehelka.   His first non fiction book on Cinema "शहर और सिनेमा : वाया दिल्ली" published in 2012 from Vani Prakashan, New Delhi. The book examines various portrayals of city Delhi in Indian Popular Cinema. Recently he translated Gyan Prakash's book on Emergency 'Emergency Chronicles' in Hindi, published by Rajkamal Prakashan with the title "आपातकाल आख्यान" in 2024. He has taught as assistant professor in Hindu College, ZHDC, Miranda House and Indraprastha College for Women in the past. He has done film appreciation course in 2014, organised by NFAI and FTII Pune. He has worked as Hindi editor at IFFI Goa, 2015 and served in the jury in Mumbai Film Festival’s (MAMI) ‘Word To Screen’ initiative in 2016. 
Presently he is working with Tuli Research Centre for India Studies.
